The Saxapahaw Holiday Market was held on Saturday, Dec 6th – between 9am to 8pm and Sunday, December 7th – from 12pm to 5pm. The two-day market included free performances by local musicians and great food. The Holiday Market was held at the Haw River Ballroom. Some of the venders attending included some of Saxapahaw’s renowned eateries; The Saxaphaw General Store, The Eddy Pub and Cup 22 Coffeehouse. This event was a dramatic departure from shopping malls and big-box retail outlets, providing ‘Old-World’ charm and personal attention.
The Holiday Market was located in a restored cotton mill, located at: Haw River Ballroom, 1711 Saxapahaw-Bethlehem Church Rd, Saxapahaw, NC, 27340 (see map below). The bottom floor had a stage displaying decorated Christmas trees. We discovered gift idea ranging from, wooden bowls and other items made from burl wood, handmade soaps, ceramics, cheese, cookies, custom place mats – to smoked duck, Canadian bacon, various pates and jellies, jewelry, wine, stuffed toys, scarfs, marinara sauce, bird houses, quilts, cards and much more. What a wonderful opportunity to shop with local venders and artisans who truly take pride in their craft!
We had been excited to attend this event for nearly a month. I got up early to make the 45-minute drive and got there early. Saxapahaw is located in a rural area, next to the Haw River. Saturday, when we attended, it was raining so we did not spend much time outdoors. The atmosphere was festive, the market was colorful and the crowd was in a shopping mood. The holiday market was a success despite the bad weather and the many other holiday events occurring in the area. – The Traveler
